Abstract

The elite athlete has reached a high level of professionalism which may lead to constrain its own preparation for a labor future beyond sport. In the 80’s and 90’s Spain two plans of facilitators are developed: the ADO plan and the Royal Decree of Elite Athletes. The aim of the study was to analyze how the athletes lived their Dual Career, their expectations of reward and support after the sport retirement, comparing their generation of belonging. The sample was 16 elite athletes. Eight were before the programs were developed and 8 were after the programs were applied. Qualitative methodology based on in deep interviews was done. The level of studies of both groups (PRE and POST), was similar. The POST athletes group communicate a perception of a greater effort, while the PRE athlete group shows higher intrinsic motivation.
