Abstract

Digital technology and its corresponding world, an essential part of contemporary human life, are mixed with the physical world and influence how people interact with their environments. The world that represents the union of the digital and physical worlds can be known as the DigiCal world. An important element of the DigiCal world that bridges the digital and physical worlds is augmented reality (AR) which is improving people's experiences in public spaces in different forms. This article examines four case studies towards the goal of utilizing AR in urban art exhibitions and advertisements. Moreover, AR opportunities have been analysed and their advantages and disadvantages discussed as an essential part of the design process especially for architects and urban designers.
