Abstract

The whole universe exists because it is being dreamt by Vishnu and it will remain like that until he wakes up and everything vanishes. God as the great architect is a recurring symbol in many religions, but Vishnu’s oniric way of creating our reality makes him a singular creator, different from Yahweh, who had to rest on the seventh day to recover himself from the grueling act of creation. An approach to the influence of the oniric world in architectural creation is proposed from the altered states of consciousness as hypnagogia, lucid dreaming or revelation, through intuition, vision and incubation. The dream as a mythological character and as a messenger of gods. As a revealer of divine traces and as a poetic origin of architectures. And the defense of a creative consciousness that is not only identified as a function of rational thought, but the sum of conscious and unconscious phenomena in the form of layers of different aspects of the individual self and collective being. The dwelling of Hypnos, the Goetheanum of Steiner, the Danteum of Terragni, the palace of Kubla Khan by Coleridge, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, or the vestibule of Castaneda are some examples cited.
