Abstract

Percepts and feelings that we experienced only survive in so far as they have left its own track in our memory. These memorial traces alive with us by a space simultaneity, where they influence each other and suffering transformations by another traces are arriving. To understand how is structured an important part of the compositional development of the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira is necessary to rescue the architectural references through which his new crystallisations become from the past impressions: his memorial library is based on a combination between vernacular Portuguese tradition and the reference models of International architecture. In Siza’s creative process underlies the Cubist movement’s method of fragmentation, which develops a simultaneous staging of his separated and transformed reminiscence, for a new position on present places: his memory recovers the past architectural models which are transformed to obtain a particular program, to adjust a specified enclave, in order to offer a new approach for the temporal and spatial continuity of the surrounding landscape.
