Abstract

Some of the drawings by Athanasisus Kircher anticipate interventions, landscapes and architectures which will be replicated in the 20th century: if his graphic demonstration of the cause of typhoons lives in Land Art (Spiral Jetty is one of the clearest evidences), his project Urbs Turrita is at the origin of some of today’s most repeated architectural forms: at those based on the multiplication of the childish image of the symbolic house. The problem of identity and imposture, with the support of the hypotheses of Sabato and Borges about the uselessness of duplications, is also tackled in relation to the sixteen drawings by Giulio Romano which resulted in I Modi, the clandestine book about amatory positions whose echo, like the voice of Borromini and Guarino Guarini, reaches Álvaro Siza. These notes on variations in Architecture conclude with the theory of Thomas Bernhard, underpinned by Peter Handke, about the falsification of reality.
