Abstract

Dance can be used as a tool of social education. His variety of styles, makes it possible to focus on different goals cross, turning the dance into a multifaceted and powerful educational tool. Depending on the need of the group, you can work different social values as the integration of the individual in society through the proxemics or space exploration staff. The dance becomes therefore in the abstraction of a society physical culture, crystallizing their social values in the style of each era. To assess the degree of relationship between a choreographic style and its cultural values, born choreometrics defined by Lomax in 1968: dance as a culture measurement. To explain the dance social root, this study focus on two of its main components: body and space. We will analyse the importance of the body and its changing meaning through classic, modern and contemporary models. Secondly, we analyze another significant crystallization: space and their characteristics according eras and styles. Finally, we raise a proposal for intervention, which, based on the diversity of choreographic styles that coexist at present (and therefore diversity of social values), has very specific educational objectives.
