The aim of this study was to present a biomechanical analysis technique used to optimize the technical performance of top-class association football referees and assistant referees. Match analyses during the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship and the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup were carried with a two-dimensional photogrammetric video system. Distance from infringements (foul play and offside situations) were calculated after DLT-based algorithms to evaluate the officials´ correct positioning. The results of this study show the effectiveness of this photogrammetric technique to provide a short-term feedback to evaluate objectively the technical performance of the officials.Downloads
