REIA is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the critical study of architecture in its theoretical, technical, political, and cultural dimensions. Indexed in the Avery Index, Latindex, and Dialnet, it offers an international platform for original research, speculative projects, and interdisciplinary perspectives on the built environment.
REIA follows a flexible editorial model with three concurrent calls: a rotating thematic call on emerging issues, a permanently open call for high-quality submissions on any architectural topic, and a space for pedagogical contributions focused on teaching, studio culture, and design research.
This issue addresses Common Beauty as a critical framework for rethinking who defines beauty in contemporary architecture. Rather than treating beauty as a stable value or a purely formal attribute, the issue examines it as a contested field shaped by memory, technology, politics, climate, perception, authorship and collective life. Through historical, theoretical, material and project-based approaches, the articles explore how aesthetic criteria are produced, inherited, challenged and transformed. Together, they suggest that architectural beauty is neither a private preference nor a universal rule, but a shared and disputed condition through which architecture negotiates value, experience and meaning.
Submissions for REIA issue 29 will remain open until October 25, 2026. The issue will be published in December 2026.
The thematic section of issue 29 will address Bioarchitecture: Designing the Inhabited Ecosystem, opening a debate on how architecture changes when it learns from the living, builds with the living, and even designs living systems, incorporating biomimetics, biomaterials, biodiversity, and new forms of multispecies coexistence.
Submissions for Issue 28 of REIA are open until May 15, 2026. The issue will be published on June 30, 2026.
The thematic section of Issue 28, The Common Beauty: Who Defines Beauty in Contemporary Architecture?, opens a critical debate on who holds the authority to define beauty today, which interests shape its construction, and how aesthetic criteria in architecture are produced, negotiated, or contested.
