Abstract

Objective: the main aim of this study was to compare the level of agreement in results obtained from the long, self-administrated version of IPAQ (IPAQ-L), with an accelerometer ‘Mywellness key’(Technogym, Gambettola, Italy) on workers. Subjects: 59 workers volunteered to participate (n=41 women, n=18 men), aged 36 ± 7 years and BMI, 23.96 ± 3.50. Methods: Measures of physical activity (PA) levels, time spent in vigorous, moderate and low activity as well as time spent sitting were assessed by the IPAQ-L and ‘Mywellness key’ accelerometer. All subjects wore an accelerometer for 7 consecutive days and filled the IPAQ-L. Comparison between the IPAQ-L and ‘Mywellness key’ accelerometer scores was done using Pearson’s rank correlation coefficients and intraclass correlation coefficient. For all analyses, the level of significance was set to p<.05. Results: concurrent validity between the IPAQ-L and ‘Mywellness key’ accelerometer were found for total vigorous PA (r = 0.93; CCI = 0.757; p<.001) and moderate PA (r=0.91; CCI = 0.951; p<.001). for the whole group. Conclusion: IPAQ-L is a valid measure of PA in population research and it has a high concurrent validity with the ‘Mywellness key’ accelerometer for total vigorous and moderate PA.
