The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between intelligence, academic competences and academic achievement in sports science university students. These relationships were also analyzed in a longitudinal study of the total sample. Method: The sample of university students was formed by (267 students; n = 41 women, n = 226 men) being on the some smaller longitudinal study (n = 55; n = 9 women, n = 46 men). In order to obtain an indicator of intelligence we applied the PMA-R. We also have an indicator of the academic achievement with the final grade of the course. Last, we have an indicator of the academic competences that students have, it was a questionnaire in which they self-evaluate their perception about the level than they possess in 40 academic competences in a Likert scale of 1-10. Results: significant relationship were found between academic achievement and intelligence, between academic competences, but these were very low between intelligence an academic competences. We also compare the academic competences level between first year students and fourth year students, and were found significant differences in favor of fourth-grade students in most of the academic competences. Conclusion: Throughout the different academic courses, the students acquire a higher level of academic competences. Moreover, the intelligence has a little relation with the competences, and therefore, could be developed independently of the level of intelligence (in normal terms) that arise the students.Downloads
