Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the degree of concordance between a specific mathematical model and three generic models for predicting % fat in footballers. Material and methods: To which were evalua- ted n = 136 professional athletes, anthropometric variables measured body weight (kg), height (m), and six skinfolds (mm) (triceps, subscapular, suprailiac, abdominal, thigh and calf). The models used are the equations of Cossio- Bolaños (specified), the equations of Boileau and Lohman (non-athletes) and the equation of Faulkner (swimmers). For the analysis of the results was used descriptive statistics of the arithmetic mean (X), standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV) and the t-test for paired samples to verify the significant differences and to as- sess the correlation used the Spearman correlation coefficient and Bland-Altman method. Results: The results show high agreement between the equation of Cossio-Bolaños (specified) with the equation of Faulkner (swimmers) and low concordance with the models Boileau and Lohman. Conclusion: We suggest using the equation of Cossio-Bo- lanos and Faulkner to predict the % fat of Peruvian professional football players, as both models have similar results.
