Sports facilities in the Autonomous Community of Madrid: Supply indicators

Abstract

This study places in a more wide research directed to analyzing the principal characteristics of the facilities and of the sports spaces of the Region of Madrid. In a more precise way, in the present work there are analyzed some indicators of the offer of facilities and sports spaces of the Region, as well as his territorial distribution, from the provided informa-tion the last Census of Sports Facilities of the Region of Madrid. The used methodology was the analysis of secondary information proceeding from the last Census. The obtained results, they prove to be important differences in the territorial distribution of the supply. Therefore, it can be said that not all the inhabitants of the Region of Madrid seem to have the same opportunities of access to the offer of sports equipments. In consequence, and though research is needed more on it, this circumstance might be a determinant of the levels of practice of physical activity and/or sport of the population who resides in the different metropolitan zones of the Region.
