The aim of the present study was twofold: i) to analyze the influence of the final score on physical performance, and ii) to examine the different match physical demands depending on the specific position of the players in the Spanish First Division of soccer. A total of 36,883 individual match observations were analyzed over 4 seasons (2015/16 - 2018/19) in the Spanish First Division, in which a total of 31 teams participated. Player position and final match result were considered. In addition, the total distance travelled per minute (mmin-1) and the total distance travelled per minute greater than 21 km/h-1 were analyzed. The ChyronHego® video tracking system was used to record the data. The results showed that forwards and half-backs travelled greater total distance travelled per minute greater than 21 km/h-1, both during the match and in the second half in wins by 1, 2 and 3 goals compared to defeats by 1, 2 and 3 goals. In contrast, central defenders travelled greater distances in 1, 2 and 3 goal defeats versus 1, 2 and 3 goal wins. The main findings of this research show that the physical performance of the soccer player positions was influenced by the match result.Downloads
