Abstract

Introduction: The cardiorespiratory evaluation in soccer has a high informative value in training and performance. Objective: To analyze the relationship between two modalities of intermittent races (linear route and with changes of direction of 180º) to compare the repetitions achieved, the accumulated distance and the time sustained in both. Materials and Methods: 30 male soccer players were evaluated with a maximum aerobic speed test and two types of intermittent running (linear and 180º changes of direction). The differences and relationships between the variables observed in both intermittent runs were analyzed using Wilcoxon's non-parametric test and Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient, respectively. Results: The sustained time, meters traveled, repetitions achieved and MHR, for the linear intermittent run were 514.66 ± 161.96 s, 1252.69 ± 388.45 m, 25.73 ± 8.09 repetitions; 193.86 ± 10.64 bpm; and for the intermittent race with changes of direction of 180º, 258.66 ± 88.96 s; 623.74 ± 195.60 m, 12.9 ± 4.44 repetitions; MHR 190.1 ± 12.71 bpm, respectively. Conclusions: The subjects who sustain longer working time in a linear intermittent race are not the same as those who do it in an intermittent race with changes of 180º.
