Abstract

Indoor cycling (IC) is one of the most practiced fitness activities in Spanish fitness centers. Likewise, recreational cycling is the activity most practiced by Spaniards. Because of this, we find many users that combine both activities, so it seems to be interesting to know the differences that have between both types of population. We studied 30 subjects (n = 13; IC only), (n = 17; IC and road cycling), who practiced IC for at least 3 years, with a frequency of more than 3 days per week. Significant differences (p <0.05) were observed for VO2 values in VT1 in mlO2/kg/min (p <0.015); for w/kg in VT2 (p <0.014); RPE in VT2 (p <0.039) and for the VO2 max in mlO2/kg/min (p <0.043). For the rest of the values analyzed, no significant differences were found, although it seems that those subjects who combine two activities show a better physical condition than those who only perform IC. From the results obtained, it could take out that there is a positive influence at the physiological level in those subjects who combine both activities without problems for their physical performance.
