This study pursued to examine the concurrent validity of muscle power prediction test Palazzi and W5” in bench press exercise. 40 physical education apparently healthy students of both sexes of an age range of 23.6 ± 2.7 years old were tested. Both prediction tests were administrated simultaneously with an encoder. The power estimated by both tests was compared with the concentric media power (PmC) and the concentric/eccentric media power (PmCE) obtained with the encoder. To evaluate their validity the determination coefficient (R2) and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated and Bland-Altman plot was generated. Despite both prediction test obtain high values of R2 an analysis of ICC showed a greater agreement with encoder in Palazzi than in W5” (PmC: 0.886 and 0.841; PmCE: 0.921 and 0.883 respectively). Bland-Altman plot showed that the agreement between prediction tests and encoder decreases in higher power values. It is concluded that both tests have acceptable concurrent validity as muscle power estimators in the bench press exercise, although it is recommended to preferably use the Palazzi test and avoid its application in subjects of high muscle power.Downloads
