Establishment of goals and relationship between expectations of success and performance in a professional football team

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the goals and the relationship between the expectations of success and performance in a professional soccer team during the three seasons studied (2010-2011, 2011-2012 and 2012-2013). Participants included 41 professional players from a second division team in the "A" Professional Football League of Spain. Interviews and different instruments were used to assess the establishment of goals and expectations of success, and the performance was measured through classification. The results showed significant differences (p<.01) of the expectations of success in relation to the performance. In addition, it can be said that establishment of goals has a positive influence on the players and the team.
