The participation of women in the Sports Department of the community of Madrid and the Madrid sports federations

Abstract

Women have been relegated to the private sphere, namely the work of the family and home, and although in recent years there has been a gradual incorporation to the different areas of public life, important differences in participation between the male and the female in many of them are still observed. This article is intended to give an overview of what happens in a sector specific world of physical activity and sport, such as the Madrid sports federations and Sports Department of the community of Madrid, to which they belong. The results demonstrate that, although the situation is changing, the positions of responsibility and the representation of women within federations is minimal, emphasizing the fact that more leadership position, minor is participation of women.
